Ted Nugent and his good buddy, Kris Kobach
After Kris Kobach ordered Kansas Democrat Chad Taylor to stay on the ballot, in what has been widely seen as a hyper-partisan decision, Taylor has asked the Kansas Supreme Court to issue an emergency restraining order prohibiting Kobach from including Taylor on the ballot.
Among other complaints, Kansas Democrats are charging Kobach with neglecting his duties as secretary of state. On the day of the withdrawal deadline, Kris Kobach was nowhere to be found:
Where was Kris Kobach Wednesday afternoon anyway? Chad Taylor had been trying to reach Kris Kobach all day. Where was he? Taylor went to the Kobach’s office at 4 o’clock, and Kris Kobach was nowhere to be found. Maybe he was out trying to get people to self-deport themselves. Maybe he was out trying to suppress voters’ rights. He surely wasn’t in his office working.
Kobach ignored multiple career employees of the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office who confirmed that the letter of withdrawal submitted by Chad Taylor was sufficient to remove his name from the ballot. In fact, these employees physically removed Chad Taylor’s name from the Kansas Secretary of State’s official list of candidates.
This comes on the heels of a new
SurveyUSA polling in Kansas, which was full of more bad news for the worst secretary of state in the nation. His challenger,
Daily Kos endorsed Jean Schodorf, is now leading 46 percent-43 percent. Equally damaging news for Kobach, Kansas voters are fully aware of his partisan shenanigans:
Let's start with the contest that rocketed to national prominence last week, the fight for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Pat Roberts. As of today, 09/08/14, about 7 in 10 Kansas likely voters are aware that Democrat Chad Taylor has withdrawn from the race, with a formal request that his name be taken off the ballot. About 6 in 10 Kansas likely voters are aware that Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Republican in his own tight-fight for re-election (more on that in a moment), has inserted himself into the fray and refuses to remove Democrat Taylor from the ballot. That creates a nightmare for state and national party officials, for Kansas voters, and for public opinion pollsters.
Can you chip in $5 to help elect Jean Schodorf and send Kris Kobach packing?
