In the midst of his hectic campaign season, with every indication that this election will be very close up till the votes are counted, Mark Schauer has taken the time to be part of our GOTV14 campaign series!
Here is his message for Michigan voters in particular--though with changing the names, this exhortation applies all over the country:
Voters -
I cannot overemphasize the importance of this election. Governor Snyder cut over $1 billion from education to pay for a tax break for corporations even if they ship jobs overseas. Rick Snyder's economy might work for the wealthy, but it's not working for the rest of Michigan.
As Michigan’s next governor, I will make education my top priority so our children can compete for the high-skill, high-wage jobs of the future. I will fight to repeal “Right to Work for Less” and I will grow our economy from the bottom up and the middle out - not the top down.
We’re likely to be outspent by Rick Snyder and his billionaire friends. But guess what? Dick Devos only gets one vote, and David Koch gets none here in Michigan. We know there is power in numbers, that’s why it is so important we get involved: volunteer with your local party (see locations below), go door to door, make phone calls, spread the word on social media, and get to the polls on Election Day.
It's time to start acting like the blue state Michigan is - when we vote, we win. (emphasis added)
As we all know, the 2010 class of Republican governors has been disastrous for our country, each one seeming to vie with the next for the title of "worst governor ever." They all have much for which to answer, but let me supply only one example for each from some of the worst of the worst. Rick Scott in Florida, making it harder to vote. Scott Walker in Wisconsin, eviscerating the ranks of public workers. Paul LePage in Maine, using his office to try to gut environmental legislation. Rick Perry, doing everything in his power to live up to Molly Ivins' favorite nickname for him, "Governor GoodHair." All of the above refusing the Medicaid expansion for their state's citizens! Chris Christie in New Jersey, presiding over massive corruption. Our own Rick Snyder in Michigan, whose many betrayals include expanding the Emergency Manager legislation even after Michigan voters rejected it, and stealthily supporting a "Right to Work" law despite having claimed it wasn't high on his agenda.
All of these governors are corrupt. All of these governors work tirelessly against the best interests of their constituents. All of these governors act in opposition to democracy-with-a-small-d. All of these governors need direct and unequivocal reminders that we are their bosses, not the other way around. In short, we need to turn out these scoundrels from ALL the state houses in November. Won't you join us, please?
