Some shots of critters I encountered over the past few days in Tennessee. Some of these were wandering around on the grounds of the Nashville Zoo.
The Daily Bucket is a regular series from the Backyard Science group. Here we talk about Mother Nature in all her glory, especially the parts that live nearby. So let us know (as close as you are comfortable) where you are and what's going on around you. What's the weather like? Seen any interesting plants, bugs or critters? Are there birds at your feeders? Deer, foxes or peahens in your yard? Seen any cool rocks or geological features? Post your observations and notes here. And photos. We like lots of photos. :)
Grackle
This birdie blends in pretty well with the tree bark. I'm not sure what kind it is...?
Don't know this birdie either...
Green Frog, at one of the ponds in the Nashville Zoo
And a Common Snapping Turtle in another of the Zoo's ponds
Slider turtles, not sure which species. Tennessee has a LOT of turtle species
This looks like a Red-Bellied Turtle
This native Broad-Headed Skink apparently moved into the zoo's aviary and made himself at home.
A Night Heron hunting in the small stream that runs alongside the Walmart.
And this is what he's after--little fishies in the stream.
A Water Strider striding on the water.
Monarch Butterfly on a flower
And now it's your turn: what's wandering around in your neck of the woods? :)
