On 28 July 2015 I gave my second speech to the Houston City Council in support of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance. The Texas Supreme Court had just ordered the Council to repeal the ordinance or put it on the ballot in November.
All 3 times pro-HERO speakers outnumbered anti-HERO speakers.
I had one minute to speak and the bell rang on me before I was finished. I salvaged my rebuttal of the Bathroom Hoax for my 3rd and final speech..
My first speech was 28 May 2014. I have posted it on Facebook. Maybe I can make a link to it.
I am Scott Tillinghast and I am speaking in favor of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance. I have two points to make.
Many opponents invoke religious freedom. That is not a good argument. Their freedom of religion ends where other peoples' freedoms begin. Employment discrimnation and refusal of service are forms of economic warfare to get supremacy over people who are different. It is a reality in this country today that there are different types of Americans. Not everyone is Christian, and not all Christians are opposed to this ordinance.
Also a 'bathroom hoax' has been spread around. Wild claims are being made that this ordinance allows men to cross-dress and enter women's rooms for nefarious purposes. The experience of other cities proves otherwise. I have friends who are transgender. This ordinance allows transgender persons simply to use restrooms for legitimate purposes.
I thank you for your time.
