So-called Crisis Pregnancy Centers practice medicine without a license (sonograms), lie to their patients (abortion causes sterility, increases the risk of breast cancer, causes post-abortion stress disorder, etc.), use misleading advertising to give the false impression that they offer abortions or referrals, falsely claim to be licensed, etc. Yet they outnumber real abortion providers by 3-1. What's worse, they receive federal and, often, state taxpayers' dollars.
The existence of these religiously motivated grifters is not new but their number is growing (estimated at 4,000 now) while efforts to put them out of business have gone nowhere - yet.
Last month the California State Assembly passed the Reproductive FACT Act, a bill that would require so-called crisis pregnancy centers to inform their clients that California “provides free or low-cost access to comprehensive family planning services, prenatal care, and abortion, for eligible women.”
