This is a bit hilarious.
There was a call to action for Alabama to secede from the US of A because of the Confederate flag brouhaha. A large call to secede went out on Facebook:
The event, which had been promoted on the Alabama Flaggers Facebook page, was intended as a call to arms for Alabama citizens who are “tired of being walked on.”
“We are rallying for the secession from the United States of America. Brings [sic] your flags, bring your secession flags, bring your secession signs,” the Facebook post encouraged supporters, with over 300 promising to attend.
Three hundred (300) good ole Alabamans (presumably the RSVPs were from Alabamans) promised to show up, rallying to secede from the good ole US of A. Weeeeeeeelllllllllllllll! Only 30 showed up.
A 5-hour secession rally at the Alabama Capitol building in Montgomery was called off after two hours on Saturday when only about 30 people showed up – far short of the 300 expected by the rally organizers, reports the Montgomery Advertiser.
“This is really shocking me that these people aren’t here,” said puzzled event organizer Freda Mincey-Burton.
She's shocked that there were more cops than protesters? Shocked that people like the benefits of living in the US of A and do not want a part of seceding with only Alabama folk like them in their new country? Well, I am not surprised.
Thirty folks showed up and it looks like a good portion were the cops to try to keep the large expected crowd under control. But a crowd did not show up. This was nothing more than a small classroom of folks.
And the poor, sad few left, chased away by the rain.
After a few brief speeches before the supporters who showed, the rally ended less than halfway though as a steady rain drenched the would-be secessionists and they straggled away.
The Union won the war again and not a single shot was fired. The South was rained out and potential secessionist went home to the lives in the United States of America. Poor them. God Bless America!
