Welcome to Morning Open Thread, a daily post with a MOTley crew of hosts who chose the topic for the day's posting. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
The diarist gets to sleep in if she wants to, and she can show up long after the post published. That is a feature, not a bug. Other than that, site rulz rule.

From the film maker, Adam Westbrook:
Do you ever have that feeling that everyone else is more successful than you?
If you think that's bad - try being Leonardo Da Vinci.
Westbrook:
All of history's greatest figures achieved success in almost exactly the same way. But rather than celebrating this part of the creative process we ignore it.
This missing chapter in the story of success reveals the secret to doing meaningful work. But in the modern world, full of distraction, do we have what it takes to do great things?
Westbrook:
In this new video essay, I've taken a look at the forgotten difficult years of another celebrated artist and wondered what it means for creative people working today.
For my kiddo, who introduced me to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s theory that “people are happiest when they are in a state of flow — a state of concentration or complete absorption with the activity at hand and the situation. It is a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter.”
