This is just fun. Legendary singer, songwriter, musician and activist Carly Simon has given her permission and blessings for her classic song “You’re So Vain” to be used in a video that mocks the conceit of Republican nominee Donald Trump. This marks the first time Simon has allowed her 1972 hit to be used for political purposes. A spokesman for Simon said the singer is:
“...alarmed at the prospect of Donald Trump reaching the White House and has joined other creative voices in making a definitive statement.”
The anti-Trump video begins with other politicians and pundits spouting about Trump narcissism. Ironically, some of them like Ted Cruz and Glenn Beck are right up there in the same vain as Trump when it comes to conceit.
Throughout the video, Trump is shown being his normal “Look-at-what-an-asshole-I-am” self. The original “You’re So Vain” lyrics stay the same with one exception. Instead of, “Your scarf, it was apricot” the lyric is now, “Your face, it was apricot.” Towards the end of the clip, the video creators Patriotic Artists and Creatives PAC point out that Trump is not only “so vain”—he is dangerously vain.
Here is the video:
Carly Simon, who shares two grown children with former husband and music legend James Taylor, has been extremely secretive about the song for decades. In 2015 she did reveal that Warren Beatty was the muse, but only for the second verse of the song. Along with Beatty, Carly Simon has also reportedly had romances with Mick Jagger, Jack Nicholson and Cat Stevens. So who else is the song about? No one really knows except Simon. (My bets are on Jagger.)

Here are the original Lyrics Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain”
You walked into the party
Like you were walking on a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf (and/or face), it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror
And watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't you?
Oh, you had me several years ago
When I was still naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee Clouds in my coffee, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, you're so vain I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
Well I hear you went to Saratoga
And your horse, naturally, won
Then you flew your Learjet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not, you're with some underworld spy Or the wife of a close friend,
Wife of a close friend, and
You're so vain You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, you're so vain I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
