The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. |

So here we go: We've had unseasonal amounts of rain and the weeds, mostly oxalis have taken over. Few things other than salvias are blooming, either. Then, since these photos, unseasonable cold, many nights of freezing temps, so we will see in a week or two how we did with that.
Out the back door, to the right, nothing blooming but pineapple sage
pineapple sage (& california fuschia) getting going
The right edge is the fuschia, strawberry guava in box against fence
begonias still going
no action except green onions & greens in hanging boxes
remains of the milkweed
the ribes
grasses, sage, calla lillies, pineapple sage
a better look at the pineapple sage
fuschia & calla lillies
ditto
oranges to the left, apricot ahead
guava and coffeeberry behind
leaf drop from apricot
to the left of the back door, succulents and such
Hydrangea, ferns
camillia, bay to the left
bee balm, greens, lemon
lemon with assorted potted plants
bay
chard (beside lemon)
erratic mallow blooms
ditto
pear, apple behind still has leaves and apples
apple, after several partial pickings
out front, rosemary, camillia, succulents to the right
redbud with sages against trunk, foxglove near side
foxglove in white rocks
safes left, pot was chives, which always reseed, but now weeds
sticky monkey flower in front of Irises
mexican sage
geranium and salvias
buddleia
salvias
ceanothus
barberry and bottlebrushes
So that is a pretty thorough walk-around, not much blooming but salvias of assorted types and those begonias under the orange tree. Oranges mostly green, some still ripe from last crop, some ripe lemons, but mostly green, and still have more apples than we can use.
