Received this e-mail today from former Governor Ted Strickland’s (D. OH) U.S. Senate campaign:
Ted Strickland (D. OH)
Imagine choosing between getting paid at work or staying at home with your sick child. Imagine making the choice between your family and a paycheck.
Imagine being punished for caring for your loved one.
It's 2016 in the United States of America and yet this is a heartbreaking choice familiar to countless Americans. That's because many working Americans -- and many working Ohioans -- don't have access to paid family leave. The millionaire and billionaire class benefit from the option of simply refusing to pay their staff, and families bear the brunt of that decision.
Right now, Congress could change that by expanding coverage of the Family Medical Leave Act. That's why I'm joining Senator Heidi Heitkamp and other progressive allies to urge Congress to stop stalling on this and make a difference in the lives of thousands of families in Ohio.
But we need your help.
Join us in urging Congress to pass paid medical and family leave!
Hard-working Ohioans are struggling, and only 13% of Americans have access to Paid Family Leave. They have children, older parents, and partners with serious illness -- and they should be able to give their families the care they deserve.
In a country as great as ours, no one should have to make the choice between providing for their family or being there when they need them. This is an issue I'll keep fighting for, but I need your help.
Join me today -- tell Congress paid medical and family leave is crucial to hard-working Americans!
Thank you for taking a stand for Ohio families.
Sincerely,
Ted Strickland
