Received this e-mail today from the SEIU:
Within minutes of the president’s nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court, GOP leaders doubled down on their vow to block it.
Working people need a government that works for them, not one that is ground to a halt by extremist special interests and the Senators who do their bidding. Judge Garland’s record shows that he believes in the duty of government to protect regular Americans, and our democracy, from being corrupted by the excesses of the super wealthy and their corporate agenda.
Join us on March 21, 22, 23 or 31 in letting Senator Toomey know just how serious this is to his constituents.
As Republican senators head home for a congressional recess, SEIU and allies will participate in #DoYourJob actions at key senators’ district offices across the country to tell them to respect the Constitution and give President Obama's Supreme Court nominee a full hearing and an up-or-down vote. If we shine a bright-enough spotlight on Republicans playing politics with the lives of millions of working families and their communities who will be affected by cases in front of the Supreme Court, we can get a critical number of Republicans to back down from their vow.
Demand that Senator Toomey give a full hearing and up-or-down vote for Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. Join thousands of people across the county who are attending actions just like this to tell their senators to #DoYourJob.
We won’t stand for GOP leaders listening only to wealthy special interests that want to rig the system to affirm their extreme anti-worker agenda. Together, we can shut down this attempt to undermine our democracy.
