Received this e-mail today from former Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto’s (D. NV) U.S. Senate campaign:
Catherine Cortez Masto (D. NV)
New parents shouldn’t have to choose between staying at home to care for their newborns and rushing back to work to pay their bills. But this impossible choice is the reality for too many working families: Only 13% of private sector workers have access to adequate paid family and medical leave.
Unfortunately, many American families know all too well how tough it is to have to leave a newborn baby in someone else’s care because they have to return to work right away. Even more startling, the United States is the only developed country in the world that doesn’t guarantee paid maternity leave.
The workplace flexibility needed to care for a loved one shouldn't be a luxury – it is a necessity. People should not have to sacrifice a loved one’s well-being because they’re worried they could lose their job.
Will you join me and call on Congress to stand up for working families and expand access to paid family and medical leave?
Paid leave is not only good for working families; it’s hugely beneficial for businesses and our economy. When parents are better supported with more flexibility in the workplace through paid family and medical leave, businesses experience an increase in worker retention – saving employers costs associated with replacing employees. Join me to demand we make paid family and medical leave a reality!
Stand with me and sign my petition to demand Congress expand access to paid family and medical leave.
Thank you for standing up for working families,
Catherine
