Would Bernie Sanders’ Judaism (or lack of faith) affect voters decision. America being the “Christian Country” that it is, I suspected so.
This image will get more and more familiar to Americans as the months pass
The media loves to report on the Black vote, the Latino vote, the Female vote, the Elderly vote, the Gay vote…. but rarely the Religious vote.
One reason for this is that religion is difficult to quantify. Sure 75.2% of Americans checked the Christian box on the Census. But how many are, in their hearts, truly followers of Jesus?
Another reason religion is a ‘No-go” subject for most American media is that, when put under the microscope, religion is exposed as the farcical and hypocritical hoax that it is. This makes readers and viewers uncomfortable, and they switch to FOX. Bye bye readers. You were fools, but you were our fools.
Always nice to get on your Sunday best!
Here is Religiosity compared to the recent Sanders’ election results. Religiosity being the amount of people per State who claim that religion plays a “very important” role in their lives. One may conclude that “very important” would also play a vital role in choosing your political leaders.
While there is a pattern at the extremes the middle is less clear. If religion is an important factor in choosing a candidate then Kentucky, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas should have been less friendly to Sanders. Massachusetts and Nevada more so?
So is Sander’s Judaism a non-issue? Not everywhere. But looking at the Mid-West there are certainly more important factors than religion at play in determining voters decisions?
