Some good diaries relating to California and otherwise:
Addison: SFGATE: “Hillary Clinton sits down to talk issues at Oakland waffle house.”
DaisiesArePretty: California Primary Poll Conducted by SurveyUSA: Clinton Beats Sanders 57% to 39%
Eternal Hope: It’s Time for the Country to Come Together to Beat Donald Trump
As I said, personal anecdotes are light this weekend. However, I will share tidbits from the local newsletter for the Contra Costa for Hillary group. I would link to the full newsletter, but it came to me by email.
When Joanne Durkee and a small group of friends started getting together in Pleasant Hill to discuss the presidential race, they began wondering how best to talk about Hillary and how to answer questions about her when asked.
Joanne invited Glenn Anaiscourt – a member of our Contra Costa for Hillary team – to speak with her group on may 24 about Hillary’s campaign and platform. 20 or so women and men of a wide range of ages attended the “meet and greet” hosted by Joanne.
The event was a wonderful success.
After socializing, Glenn kicked-off the discussion with formal comments about Hillary's campaign and her economic and foreign policy platforms. Attendees then openly discussed a wide range of issues in a Q&A session before enjoying small group discussions over snacks.
Expressing his appreciation to Joanne and her friends for organizing the event, Glenn said he thought this was exactly what voters should be doing:
Getting together to share ideas, discussing issues with one another, and listening to and learning from one another to determine how best to support Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The Contra Costa for Hillary group also has a Women Wednesday, where group members call women in the area and ask for their support of Clinton:
Highlight from the Women WednesdayPhone Bank hosted by Sue Hamill on May 25:
Phone bankers joined a conference call with Hillary Clinton (wow) – and got revved-up to make more calls to our California neighbors.
Also, as I was composing this diary, the local news mentioned how both Hillary and Bernie are barnstorming all over California, with Bernie holding 15 events in the last 7 days, and Hillary “beefing up” her schedule. In her corner will be mayors from around the country, who will be phone banking on her behalf.
One great thing about canvassing… it brings out the really dedicated!
Meanwhile, the usual concern trolls (*cough* New York Times and Politico) are peddling the “OMG, Hillary could lose California!” narrative because they would have nothing to write about otherwise.
Senator Dianne Feinstein certainly thinks it’s all over:
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Sen. Bernie Sanders’ fight for the Democratic nomination is "all but over," adding that the nation would be "better off" if he worked to bridge the party’s divides ahead of the general election.
Feinstein, one of the earliest members of Congress to endorse Hillary Clinton, encouraged Sanders to view his campaign from a "real perspective."
Yet the Washington Monthly, D.R. Tucker looks at the possibility that even after the primary is over, Bernie might not concede.
Is the Hillary Clinton campaign prepared for the possibility that Bernie Sanders may never actually concede?
Even if Clinton wins big in the New Jersey Democratic primary on June 7 and thus reaches 2,383 pledged delegates (regardless of the outcome in the California primary that night), it’s difficult to see him throwing in the towel prior to the Democratic convention in Philadelphia, where he has already signaled that he will petition superdelegates to hand the nomination over to him anyway, on the grounds that he is (in theory, anyway) a stronger general-election candidate than Clinton. The dream of unity between Clinton and Sanders after the conclusion of the primaries is unlikely to ever come true: the visceral hatred that Sanders so obviously feels for Clinton is simply not going to dissipate.
Whoopie for those of us who actually want to beat Trump in November.
