Received this e-mail today from Josh Shapiro’s (D. PA) Attorney General campaign:
This weekend I’ll join Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth in celebrating LGBT Pride with parades and festivals in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and many communities in between.
We’ve celebrated so many legal milestones and joyous achievements over the past few years during Pride. In 2013, I helped issue the first marriage licenses in Pennsylvania to loving gay couples as Chairman of the County Commissioners in Montgomery County, a year later marriage equality became the law of our Commonwealth and a year after that, love became the law all across America.
While some politicians are trying to halt our progress by scaring the public and spreading misinformation, let’s remember that Pride is about showing the world there’s nothing to be afraid of and that everyone – no matter who they love or how they identify – deserves to be protected by the laws of this Commonwealth.
In Pennsylvania, we’re fighting to change state law so you can’t be fired from your job or evicted from your home just for being gay. It’s wrong, and that’s why I’ve been a vocal supporter of changing the law from the beginning of this fight.
Join the fight to end LGBT discrimination. Sign the petition today.
As we celebrate together this weekend, I promise that as your next Attorney General, I’ll continue the progress and fight every day for the rights and safety of all Pennsylvanians.
Happy Pride!
Josh
