Kristen Hawkins is running for judge of the 11th Civil District Court in Harris County, to be elected to a 4-year term. This is a trial court for major cases. This is the fourth of my series of diaries about Democratic nominees in Harris County TX. I am supporting her as a volunteer; I am not a lawyer.
Kristen Hawkins graduated magna cum laude from the South Texas College of Law (recently renamed the Houston College of Law). She became a member of the South Texas Law Review. She was born in Dallas, grew up in Houston, graduated from Alief Hastings High School on the west side of Houston. She had majors in government and Spanish at The University of Texas at Austin.
She has 16 years experience as an attorney. In 2010 she was appointed a Harris County Tax Master and has presided weekly over Tax Court meetings. She thus managed a docket of some 6000 cases. This amounts to some 5 years of judicial experience.
She is active both in the Houston and Texas Bar Associations. Often she speaks on Social Security Disability law. She speaks also on starting small firms, property tax law, and courtroom procedures
She has written a good article about jury service, both about grand juries and petit (ordinary) juries.
Harris County has one of the longest ballots in the country. There are many judicial candidates on the ballot every 2 years. I hope I am adding some light to a region of darkness.
It costs money to run for any office. Your donations would be most appreciated.
You can vote for her if you are registered to vote in Harris County. Early voting will start in the middle of October. Always wise to vote early so you have time to rectify problems. You must be registered, however, at least 30 days prior to Nov. 8.
