First of all… THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! All of the advice was very helpful. Now… where I stand now: So I have a Lisfranc Fracture Dislocation on all 3 of the major ligaments in my foot, and my doctor’s looking at the more modern primary fusion surgery as opposed to the traditional ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) surgery. The first basically fuses my joints together, the other just kinda re-aligns them and hopes they stay that way. Normally he’d go with the latter, but I messed my foot up so much, he’s thinking the former is the best bet.
At this point, I’m going to be out of work until my birthday (ironic, huh?) August 19th. And that DEFINITELY goes past the paid leave I have. I’m still waiting to touch base with the HR person at work. (Ugh, we keep playing phone tag.) I did speak with my supervisor at work and she specifically mentioned me coming in and filling out paperwork for FMLA so that’s good.
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and I checked coverage out with them. It’s a $200 minimum. I have a $300 co-pay for the surgery + 10% cost of the surgery, + 10% cost for the surgeon and 10% cost for the anesthetist. Then of course I have to pay the co-pays for office visits and prescriptions. I’ve already paid over $100. I’ll also likely have to get a knee scooter. So the final cost for me looks like it could be in the thousands as this begins to add up and I likely won’t be getting at least one paycheck. I honestly have no idea how much this going to cost in the long run. I’m scared. I don’t have much saved and this is on top of regular bills due.
Fortunately, my sister and brother-in-law are going to take care of me after the surgery. I’ll stay with them, and they’ll take care of my cats. I’ll have my job still with the FMLA. I just have to get through the surgery and healing, and hope I don’t drown financially. I may need help.
