I thought a first-hand live report from the floor would be in order about now.
I won't be updating the diary body but posting repeated comments.
Yes: this is a noisy room. There are definitely pockets of delegates (including some from my own state) who are choosing to make their feelings known.
But they are not a large proportion of the delegate body here. Most Sanders delegates—including me—recognize the value of appearances. We respect Sanders’ request for civility. I strongly urge you not to succumb to right-wing framing of dissent. This convention hall is full with energetic and engaged people.
I cannot conjecture nor expect that all the most vocal and intense Sanders supporters will come around Already, however, I have seen significant movement on the part of many stalwart Sanders supporters There is no need to dig in one’s heels to insist on a sanitized spectacle.
As Diane Russell, Maine representative from Portland (and also a Bernie supporter who is now with Hillary) said a few minutes ago: “This is what democracy looks like."
