Received this e-mail today from Democracy for America that I would like to pass along to all my fellow California Kossacks:
It's not enough to defeat Donald Trump this November. We have an important opportunity to defeat some awful Republicans and continue to build the political revolution.
There are four Congressional races in California that are absolutely critical to putting progressives that much closer to a majority in the House. California is a state that has helped lead the way on key progressive priorities, including a $15 minimum wage. Especially with the expected high anti-Trump turnout, California voters could send more strong progressives to Congress.
That's why DFA is endorsing Doug Applegate, Emilio Huerta, Bryan Caforio, and Mike Honda for Congress: They will stand up to corporate power, fight Wall Street, and work hard for progressive values.
Will you help build the political revolution up and down the ballot? Chip in $3 or more to help DFA elect Doug Applegate, Emilio Huerta, Bryan Caforio, and Mike Honda.
Donald Trump is dragging down Republican fortunes all over the country -- and especially in California. Voting registration has soared in California this year as young people and Latinos in particular are fired up to vote against Trump and his fellow Republicans. That gives these four candidates a strong chance against their opponents:
- Doug Applegate is running in California's 49th District against the richest man in Congress, Darrell Issa. Issa is a right-wing extremist who has fought against abortion rights and has worked to cut and privatize Social Security. Applegate is a Marine Corps veteran who is determined to take on Wall Street and fight for working people. Applegate came very close to matching Issa's vote in the primary, showing he can win.
- Emilio Huerta, the son of legendary labor leader Dolores Huerta, is running in California's 21st District against David Valadao, a Republican who voted with Ted Cruz to shut down the federal government back in 2013. Huerta has spent his life working against the rich and powerful, fighting for those who are suffering from a rigged economy, and will be a strong voice for comprehensive immigration reform in Congress.
- Bryan Caforio is running in California's 25th District against the last Republican member of Congress in Los Angeles County, Steve Knight. Knight is a strong opponent of marriage equality -- and supports the TPP. Caforio will fight to raise the minimum wage and take on the big banks.
- Mike Honda currently represents California's 17th District, and is once again facing a challenge from the corporate shill Ro Khanna. Khanna opposes expanding Social Security benefits and has attacked Honda as an "old-school liberal" for opposing repeal of George W. Bush's tax cuts. Khanna campaign is funded by money from extreme right-wing billionaire Peter Thiel, who doesn't think women should have the right to vote and who spoke in support of Donald Trump at the Republican convention last month. Thiel supports Trump and Khanna because he knows they'll undermine progressive values in Congress. We support Honda because he has always fought for us.
Together these four Democrats can reduce the ranks of Republicans in Congress and get us closer to a progressive majority again. We can't do it without your help.
Help build the political revolution and build a more progressive Congress: Chip in $3 or more to help DFA elect Doug Applegate, Emilio Huerta, Bryan Caforio, and Mike Honda.
Thank you for standing up against corporate-friendly politicians.
