It was big news yesterday when Richard Hanna, the GOP Congressman from New York’s 22nd District, became the first GOP Congressman to endorse Hillary Clinton. Many people noted that Hanna is not running for re-election, softening the political consequences for him.
This aroused my curiosity about who is running for the now open seat. The Republican is Claudia Tenney, an upset primary winner who pledges to “stand up for core Conservative Republican values.” She has been endorsed by Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and the NRA.
Most significantly, unlike Hanna, Tenney has endorsed Donald Trump.
The Democrat is Kim Myers, a school board President, who grew up working in her family’s business, Dick’s Sporting Goods.
The District is considered a toss-up and along with several other New York Districts, is critical for the Democrats to have a House Majority or gain ground to have one in the future. Third Party Candidate Independent Martin Babinec (running on the Upstate Jobs Party line) may help Myers.
I just gave ten bucks to Kim.
Consider contributing something here in honor of Hanna’s endorsement of Hillary (or for any other reason).
Let me know in the poll and/or comments if you contribute so I can determine if it’s worth doing diaries like this!
(Even if you can’t give, consider recommending the diary so others will get the information and can give.)
Thanks!
