From Garlin Gilchrist's Campaign:
Tuesday, November 21, 2017:
“We are filing a recount petition for the now-certified results of the Nov. 7 election tomorrow at noon. In Michigan, it costs $125 to recount a precinct or absentee counting board. Will you sponsor a precinct and chip in $125 before 11 a.m. [ET] tomorrow morning?
Let’s keep standing TALL and fighting for transparency together!
You can donate via ActBlue.” [As seen on FaceBook]
Please Step Up:
In a poll in my previous Daily Kos story, 85% of those who took the poll declared that Team Garlin should push for a recount of the Detroit City Clerk election (23 Yes votes out of 27 votes cast).
Detroit Free Press:
Narrowly defeated Detroit City Clerk candidate Garlin Gilchrist II requested on Tuesday a recount of votes from some of the precincts in the hotly contested race against incumbent Janice Winfrey.
Gilchrist is asking for a recount of all 100 absentee voting boards — or precincts — in the city. He is also looking into possibly requesting a recount of some select precincts where he said he had heard about issues.
"For the last three months, we've heard many stories from absentee voters about chaos and confusion with their application and their ballots," Gilchrist said at a news conference. "There was enough confusion to have concerns about the process and how these votes were counted. The results on election night added to these voters' concern." [Free Press]
“Detroit voters deserve an election process they can trust.
In response to issues observed with the November 2017 election, we have established the Detroit Voting Openness and Transparency Effort (VOTE) Fund to deliver the transparency and accountability Detroit voters need to restore trust in the voting process.” ActBlue.
Thank you, everybody, for your pre-election support! Our Daily Kos-Garlin Gilchrist old ActBlue page shows we raised $780 for the campaign, and Garlin and the team and I are thankful. However, we have a new new ActBlue page for the recount process: The Detroit Voting Openness and Transparency Effort (VOTE) Fund.
