ACTBAC is a group in Alamance County (that claims they are not the KKK, and really wish they would stop using their heritage flag they want to fly all along the highways of NC) that I think I’ve mentioned before and has been profiled before.
The Times News article The article is behind a partial paywall as you only get a few articles per month for free. I will try to stay with in fair use.
SPLC page on the group
“To me, it’s basically blasphemy,” ACTBAC founder Gary Williamson said.
They say the don’t hate anyone, they just want to “take the county” back to some time and place they don’t specify, but most of what they say seems to indicate times before the Masjid, before the Pride celebrations and when one of the high schools used the rebel flag as their mascot/symbol.
The SPLC was unable to provide by the Times-News’ deadline Thursday specific examples of why ACTBAC received the designation of hate group.
“The reason we made it on there is strictly because we hold Confederate rallies,” Williamson said.
I suspect the SPLC looked at their facebook page really doesn’t tend to overflow with love and human kindness for anyone who doesn’t follow their views, I don’t think they realize how many NC born and bred do not support them, not just the “carpetbaggers” from elsewhere.
One of the ACTBACers shows up to events with the Betsy Ross flag as it represents an America when women couldn’t vote, or that is what he told the protesters back in November at the protested rally in Burlington.
They have raised flags, but none along the interstate which is their goal, apparently another one is going up. Drove past one south of me (this one will be north of me) and that one was such a small flag on such a short pole I almost missed it, not sure if the new one will be more impressive).
THIS WEEKEND, ACTBAC is hosting a “Flag Raising Celebration” to erect a Confederate battle flag on a 40-foot pole.
The pole, constructed in recent weeks at N.C. 87 and Brown’s Chapel Road in Caswell County, is in front of CrossRoads Tavern.
Caswell County is the county with the digital KKK that rode through Roxboro to celebrate Trump calls home. ACTBAC was confused with the KKK on a social media post that claimed they marched in Mebane (bridge was in Burlington it was just the way a flag draped that made it look like a hood).
One of our county Commissioners has asked for their help getting elected and has possibly even less respect for reporters than 45*
Sutton said he did not “have a lot of respect for the Southern Poverty Law Center.”
He also criticized the Times-News’ coverage of ACTBAC, told the reporter never to contact him again, and said the hamburger he was eating was of more importance than she.
Her reaction was posted on twitter.
