Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D. OH):
Ever feel like you're working harder and harder, yet somehow getting less and less for it?
You're not alone. I talk to Ohioans all the time that feel the exact same way. It's not just a feeling -- it's a failure of our economic policies.
Hard work isn't rewarded the way it used to be in this country. People earn less, can't save up to reach the classic milestones of buying a home or starting a family, much less save for retirement. Wages and benefits have declined or stagnated. Workers feel less financially stable, even though they're working harder and producing more than ever before.
I've got a plan to update our economic policies and turn this around. Some of the major policy changes we need to make are:
- Raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.
- Raise the white collar overtime salary threshold.
- Require that employees earn a minimum of seven paid sick days a year.
- Give workers a 12-week paid family and medical leave standard.
- Create stronger penalties for "wage theft."
Workers in this country are working too hard for too little. It's time we did something about this.
Sign on to support my plan to restore the value of hard work in America.
These are concrete steps we can take to help all workers earn more, lessen their financial burdens, and start getting ahead again.
Thank you for supporting them.
Sherrod
