Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D. OH) re-election campaign:
"Donald Trump, whose populist message and promises to help American workers propelled him to the White House, is set to issue a budget proposal on Tuesday that instead takes aim at the social safety net on which many of his supporters rely."
-- Politico, 5/22/2017
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump promised to look out for the little guy. He looked hardworking Ohioans in the eye, shook their hands, and said he'd fight for them.
Judging by his budget proposal, Trump intends to break those promises.
Let President Trump know that his first budget priority should be families -- not corporations and billionaires. And if it's not, our first priority will be holding him accountable. Join me and pledge to fight against Trump's budget plan >>
According to a report by Politico, Trump's proposal cuts more than $600 billion in Medicaid funding over ten years. Trump slashes everything from farm subsidies to student aid, food assistance to Social Security Disability Insurance.
But of course, this budget includes tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, like Trump.
Ohioans know budgets are about priorities. Candidate Trump said people were his priority. President Trump seems to disagree.
A budget should invest in communities -- in early childhood education, job training, small business development, and infrastructure. These are the investments that will get us ahead over the long term. These are the kinds of investments that will help create jobs and build a strong economy.
Let President Trump know we are ready to fight any budget proposal that doesn't put Ohio families first.
Thank you for your activism on this.
Sherrod
