Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin’s (D. WI) re-election campaign:
Trump’s budget is bad news for our schools.
Trump’s plan takes away billions in education funding — and the Washington Post reported that the programs hit hardest are ones that help disadvantaged students, low-income school districts, and college students.
I’m not going to stand by and let our children’s future get written off.
Add your name to stand up for public education. Tell President Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos not to gut funding for services kids depend on.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has a long history of lobbying to take money away from public schools, and now she’s trying to do it from the top echelons of our government.
I believe every child deserves a quality education because education opens doors. Education gives children — regardless of where they come from or how much money their parents make — the opportunity to work hard and get ahead.
But this dream, this promise of opportunity, becomes increasingly unreachable for children when public school programs they rely on are underfunded or cut completely.
Trump’s budget also makes it harder for students to pay for college. President Trump wants to cut work-study funding nearly half and end student loan forgiveness for college graduates who go into public service.
Right now, Senator Elizabeth Warren and I are leading the charge in the Senate to help make it easier for students to get out from under debt, but this budget could very well make it harder!
Let’s show President Trump and Betsy DeVos just how much of a disaster their budget is. If you’re committed to public education, sign here to tell them you oppose their cuts to our education system.
Thank you for taking action,
Tammy
