Received this e-mail today from Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s (D. NM) gubernatorial campaign:
Zero.
That’s how many laws Congress has passed to protect LGBT Americans from discrimination at work, at school or in housing. Zero. But that lack of federal protection isn’t enough for President Trump.
His administration has already rolled back guidance that instructed schools to let transgender students use the bathroom they want. Now Republicans are considering more executive actions sanctioning anti-LGBT discrimination.
But we can stop them. We can pass the Equality Act, landmark legislation to provide federal protections for LGBT people. I’m proud to co-sponsor this bill in the House. I’m asking you to join me and become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the Equality Act.
Add your name to co-sponsor the Equality Act and protect LGBT Americans from discrimination!
This bill does not create “extra” rights. It does not give anyone more rights than others. It simply requires leaders to keep this country’s core promises. The Equality Act would protect the rights LGBT Americans already have, and ensure no other laws can undermine those rights.
Until we pass this bill, there is nothing standing in the way of President Trump targeting LGBT Americans. Someone has to be a check on his dangerous policies. I’m doing that now in Congress, and you can bet I’ll continue as Governor of New Mexico. Now I want you to join me.
Add your name to become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the Equality Act.
Thank you,
Michelle
