I had a friend named Bob twenty years ago, he was born and raised in Oregon, but had moved to Alaska after graduating college and spent 20 years there.
When I first met him, all he talked about was his past in Alaska and a woman whom he had had a relationship with there. He lived almost entirely in his past and yet he couldn’t understand why that was preventing him from having a future.
After about a year of this, one day I finally had a talk with him, and then I had that talk with him about ten thousand times over the next three years.
The talk consisted of very few words:
You can live in the past or for the future.
But you cannot do both at the same time.
Choose one.
Like my friend, Bob, there are people here at Daily Kos who want to continue to live in the past to the detriment of the future.
The hard truth is, both Bernie and Hillary lost and none of us can do a thing to change any of it.
So what is more important to you folks who continue to try and re-litigate the 2016 primary — fighting over a race long over OR working towards a better future?
If you don’t want to see a repeat of 2016 then I suggest you pull your heads out of the sand and look around you. There are new races with new candidates going on RIGHT now.
Jon Ossoff in Georgia’s 6th District is looking like he might well become the first Democrat to win that seat in nearly two generations on the 20th of NEXT MONTH.
Democratic candidates are challenging Republicans in state level districts across Virginia.
Candidates running for the US House in 2018 are active and gearing up for next year all across the nation, from New York to Washington to Nevada. All of them need attention and assistance.
So the question is:
Are you going to join the rest of us and FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE?
Or are you going to just keep on having the same damned argument about 2016 and Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton until the end of time?
Because
You can live in the past or for the future.
But you cannot do both at the same time.
Choose one.
Bonus points to anyone who drops a link to a Daily Kos story about a current candidate in a current race in the comments!
