Received this e-mail today from Governor Tom Wolf’s (D. PA) re-election campaign:
On this day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act to abolish the gender wage gap. Fifty-four years later, stark disparities in pay still exist for men and women tasked with the same job responsibilities.
Despite the existence of equal pay laws on both the federal and state levels, women in Pennsylvania still make 79 cents for every one dollar a man makes. And for women of color, that gap is even larger.
But instead of strengthening our equal pay law and holding employers accountable, politicians in Harrisburg introduced legislation that would roll back protections on wage discrimination.
That's unacceptable -- and as your governor, I won't stop fighting until we have equal pay for equal work in all 67 counties. Will you join me? Sign my petition to tell Harrisburg to pass a real paycheck fairness bill.
What Republicans in Harrisburg don't realize is how indispensable women are in Pennsylvania's workforce and economy. Without equal pay and providing women with the wages necessary to provide for themselves and their families, how can we expect to grow as a commonwealth? The truth is, when we shortchange anyone in Pennsylvania, we all lose out.
Let's send a message to Harrisburg and demand equal pay for equal work. I hope you'll join the fight to close the wage gap -- sign the petition:
