Received this e-mail over the weekend from Democracy for America in support of Randy Bryce’s (D. WI-01) campaign:
If Democracy for America members have our way, we're going to replace Paul Ryan with a Democratic Medicare for All supporter in 2018.
Ironworker Randy Bryce (who goes by the incredible name @ironstache on Twitter) is taking on Ryan in one of Wisconsin's toughest districts. And he has already said that, if elected, he would gladly co-sponsor the Medicare for All bill in the House.
Bryce went on CNN last week to defend Medicare for All in the face of a ferocious attack by Republicans and their corporate allies. They asked about how we would pay for it -- and he nailed the answer:
"There's a lot of people not paying their fair share in taxes," Bryce said. "There's corporations getting away with a lot."
Bryce is already showing himself to be a national leader on one of the most important issues of our time. He's proving that he's running a progressive campaign and taking on the most powerful Republican in Congress.
Pitch in $3 or more now to fuel Randy Bryce's campaign and help DFA members do everything possible to hand Paul Ryan's House seat to a progressive Medicare for All supporter.
Bryce isn't alone. Momentum is building in the Democratic Party for Medicare for All.
Last week, Dave Weigel of the Washington Post reported on some of the prominent Democrats backing single payer in response to Trumpcare:
"Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), perhaps the country’s most prominent proponent of universal coverage, is waiting for an opening -- likely after the GOP’s repeal push succeeds or fails -- to introduce a new bill. Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), both seen as potential 2020 presidential candidates, each said last week that the party needed to get behind “Medicare for all."
The momentum doesn't end in the Senate. The majority of currently-elected House Democrats -- 113 out of 193, to be exact -- have signed on as co-sponsors of John Conyers' single-payer health care bill.
Even as Donald Trump and the Republicans threaten to strip millions of their health insurance, a popular groundswell is giving new life to the idea that Medicare for All could be achievable.
In June, a Pew Research Poll found that a whopping 60% of Americans say that the federal government is responsible for ensuring health care coverage for everyone.
Unfortunately, corporate think tanks like Third Way -- and the "conservative" Democrats who take talking points from them -- are still fighting Medicare for All tooth and nail, determined to protect insurance companies at any cost.
We need Democrats who are willing to do more than just resist Republican attacks on our health care. We must prioritize electing progressive champions who believe that every American has a right to access health care -- and are committed to implementing a Medicare for All plan over time to make that dream into a reality.
Randy Bryce is standing up boldly for Medicare for All in the face of GOP attacks, and he's making health care a key part of the platform he's using to defeat Paul Ryan.
Can you chip in $3 or more to say "thank you" to Randy for his leadership on Medicare for All -- and to support DFA's efforts to help him win?
Thanks for having Randy's back -- and for fighting for truly universal health care.
