Detroit voters selected my guy, Garlin Gilchrist II, in Tuesday’s primary to go on to the November election for Detroit City Clerk. He will be running against the incumbent.
An important Kosack, David Nir, the Political Director of Daily Kos and publisher of the series Daily Kos Elections, spontaneously called Garlin Gilchrist a “rising star” yesterday at Netroots Nation. In response to a question about hot down-ballot races, Nir said this:
“In Detroit, there have been various sorts of voting problems for a number of years, and the clerk there is being challenged by a young, rising star in Garlin Gilchrist, and that’s a race that has come across our radar, particularly because of the importance of election administration.” (Video and transcript in the comments below.)
That paragraph is the short version of what Support the Dream Defenders have been saying for the last several weeks in our Friday night Daily Kos stories.

Bottom Line: Chief Participation Officer
The City Clerk should be Detroit’s Chief Participation Officer, completely focused on getting as many Detroiters as possible involved in the decision-making processes they care about.
Garlin has experience mobilizing and inspiring people to vote and play a part in how decisions get made. He’ll aggressively use smart new tools to make it easy to vote and put more information in more Detroiters’ hands and give them more ways to share their ideas with their government.
