This week, we saved the Affordable Care Act and stopped the GOP from ripping health care away from millions of Americans. It's an incredible victory that never would have happened without the passion and activism of people like you.
But we can't relax: Trumpcare won't be gone for long. Some Republicans are already proposing bringing it back in 2018. And as long as people have to go broke trying to get the care they need, right-wing special interests will try to exploit peoples' frustration with the status quo for political gain.
The only way to kill Trumpcare for good is to elect progressives who put forth a bold vision that goes beyond the ACA in support of a universal, single-payer Medicare-for-all system -- candidates for the U.S. House like Veronica Escobar, Joe Neguse, and RandyBryce.
Veronica Escobar has spent her career fighting for immigrant rights and good jobs as El Paso's county judge, and is ready to take on Paul Ryan and Donald Trump in Congress. Joe Neguse is a son of refugees who is running to become the first African-American elected to Congress in Colorado's 141-year history. Randy Bryce is a union ironworker who is working to unseat House Majority Leader Paul Ryan in an increasingly winnable-looking race -- a recent poll showed the two virtually neck-and-neck.
Randy Bryce (D. WI-01)
Veronica Escobar, Joe Neguse, and Randy Bryce are fighting for Medicare for All because they know that progressives win when we run on our values. Can you chip in $3 or more to support these incredible Congressional candidates before tomorrow's FEC deadline? DEADLINE: TOMORROW, September 30 at 11:59pm.
On Monday night, a health care debate hosted by CNN exposed the arguments the GOP has been using to attack the Affordable Care Act. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham -- a co-author of the latest health care attack -- pulled out his best Bernie Sanders impression, disingenuously going after big business:
"Let me tell you what's happened since Obamacare passed. Anybody have stock in Anthem? 270 percent increase. Humana, 420 percent increase. Aetna, 470 percent increase. Cigna, 480 percent increase.
Where's the money going? It's going to insurance companies who are not delivering for you."
Lindsey Graham doesn't mention that his bill would have showered rewards on the same insurance companies he was attacking. But the substance of what he was saying wasn't entirely wrong.
The ACA was a huge step forward which allowed millions of people to access health care who previously couldn't. But our current system still allows insurance and pharmaceutical companies to prioritize profits over people by charging Americans twice as much for care as people in any other nation -- and denying care to people who can't afford to pay.
Democrats can't counter arguments like Graham's by saying that the status quo is the best we can do. We need a bold, forward-looking vision that guarantees that everyone can access the care they need.
That's why Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. John Conyers have introduced legislation that would make Medicare for All a reality -- an idea that has unprecedented support among Democrats in both houses of Congress right now. And it's why visionary candidates like Veronica Escobar, Joe Neguse, and Randy Bryce are making Medicare for All a central part of their campaign.
Many potential Democratic candidates across the country are weighing whether or not to support Medicare for All right now. Let's show them that the grassroots will stand with and support Democrats who fight for our right to health care.
Chip in $3 or more to support Medicare for All champions Veronica Escobar, Joe Neguse, and Randy Bryce -- and DFA's work to help elect them -- before the FEC deadline. DEADLINE: TOMORROW, September 30 at 11:59pm.
