I didn’t plan to write it, though I did plan to do something to try to keep Nashville General Hospital open for inpatient care. We have about eleventy-five hospitals here in Nashville and this is the only one that provides care for the indigent population. Like me.
The quality of care they provide is outstanding too. In my 30 years here in Nashville, I’ve been an inpatient at 3 other hospitals, all big HCA members. Two of them sucked big time, and the one that was smaller was actually quite good but then so was my insurance policy at the time.
At Nashville General Hospital I had a surgeon who answered my emails, a Nurse Practitioner who took my phone calls and an Anesthesiology team that went to bat for me when I needed it.
I had a good 2 years of healthcare due to the ACA, but am once again without it. So when Move On sent me an email asking if I wanted to write a petition, I thought, “Yes, actually, I do!" Please help me have access to good quality health care by signing my petition.
I had no insurance when I was diagnosed with cancer six years ago; luckily I was hooked up with Nashville General Hospital and their exceptional and caring staff. At every level they put the patient first. What other hospital in Nashville is going to treat indigent patients with such understanding? I bet none. Does the hospital lose money? Not as much as TN has by refusing to accept Expanded Medicaid.
That's why I created a petition to Mayor Megan Barry, Metro City Council, and Meharry Medical College, which says:
"Despite Mayor Barry's desire to "Explore a new model", Nashville doesn't need one. Nashville General Hospital provides exemplary care for everyone, regardless of whether they are insured or have the ability to pay. That's a model all area hospitals might want to explore."

I’m thinking a metal sign is one step up from a petition. That may be my next move.
