Sherman County, Oregon, is a farming area and therefore it is not surprising that the award-winning Sherman County Museum has several displays related to farming. Shown below is a collection of farm equipment which is housed in an open area adjacent to the museum. Most of the items in this area are unlabeled.
The Cook Shack
As grain harvesters moved from field to field, the cook shack, pulled by horses, moved with them.
According to the museum display:
“Dirt, wind, heat and flies moved right along with it! The harvest crooks had no refrigeration, electricity or running water, and were expected to camp out beside their kitchen! What cook would work under these conditions nowadays?”
