Jane Raybould is running against Deb Fischer in the Nebraska Senate race this November. The race is rated Solid R by Cook Political and is a steep uphill climb for Raybould. But the Republican incumbent’s approval ratings are so low that this is a race worth fighting:
According to an automated survey by Public Policy Polling for the Raybould campaign, conducted Nov. 10-12, 35 percent of Nebraska voters approved of the job Fischer was doing while 45 percent disapproved. The senator led Raybould 42-31 percent in a hypothetical general election ballot test. A more recent poll conducted March 4-5 by JMC Analytics showed Fischer’s job rating at 34 percent approve and 42 percent disapprove. — www.rollcall.com/...
Jane currently serves on the city council for Lincoln, NE. She ran unopposed in district 3 after winning her primary. She’s a native Nebraskan, born in Lincoln in 1958. She’s married to Jose Herrero and has two adult children, Clara and Gabriel. She earned a BA from Creighton University and an MA from Georgetown University and has been campaigning as “an independent voice” for Nebraskans:
"People are sick and tired of all the divisive partisan battles" in Washington that leave huge issues such as health care and retirement security unresolved, Raybould said in announcing that she has decided to enter next year's Senate race. — journalstar.com/...
In their single scheduled debate in August, Raybould criticized her opponent, Deb Fischer as “part of the problem” in Washington:
Lincoln City Councilwoman Jane Raybould spent much of an hourlong debate Monday accusing U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer, a Republican, of serving the interests of her party and its donors over the needs of most Nebraskans.
Raybould, a Democrat, criticized Fischer for not taking action on school shootings. “Sen. Fischer is part of that problem.”
At another point, Raybould called Fischer “corrupt” and didn’t back down during a post-debate interview, citing Fischer’s support for insurance companies, railroads and cable companies. “While she is taking their money, she is throwing Nebraska families under the bus,” said Raybould, whose campaign says it accepts no donations from corporate political action committees. — www.omaha.com/...
Jane is vice president and director of buildings and equipment at B&R Stores, which is owned by her family. They operate 19 Russ's Market and Super Saver grocery stores in the state.
Jane was previously the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor in 2014. She lost that race by 18 points. But those 18% represented only 98,000 votes. Her opponent in that race received 308,751 votes. The Democratic ticket of Hassebrook/Raybould got 211,905 votes. If Republican turnout stays the same as 2014, this race is winnable. In 2008, Barack Obama lost Nebraska, but he got 333,319 votes. So the votes are there, we need people to turnout.

There are the 14 Senate races that are close or where the seat is currently held by a Republican along with their current 538 and Cook political rating.
You can donate to all 14 of these Senate candidates here.
They are all worthy of attention because we need a 50 state strategy to show people who’re victims of country club Republicans that we will fight for them.
The Gavels is about gaining control of the Senate and its committees. Prior diaries are on David Baria (MS), Jenny Wilson (UT).
