Tricia Wyse — Founder of PWB
First and most of all, we have to thank Tricia Wyse, who founded PWB and fought to get us a page on KOS. (I regret I wasn’t around until after she crossed.) And she fought hard. The original Pootie Queen could be a tiger when necessary to defend her turf. She was a South Philly Girl! We are a very kind species (for the most part), but mess with our peeps &/ or animuses and watch our claws come out! As a South Philly Princess, I can relate. Just ask MCS.
In PWB, have our own legends: The Great Ceiling Cat, The Almighty Dog, and The Sekrit Birdhead. Today will be a day to thank them for all the companion animals they have allowed us to have in our lives. Happy thoughts and thanks -There are many we mourn, but let us reflect upon the good times and be thankful for the times we shared. So, “Thank You” is the theme of the day.
Personally, I want to thank Maureen Mower for raising Smokey & Tiger-Two wonderful cats who we wound up inheriting in a round-about way, even though I am a relative newbie here. And those Kossacks who helped make the adoption happen. Maureen could barely survive with what she had left after paying Ephraim’s medical bills, but she always managed to provide for Smokey & Tiger. For this, Meowsker & MCS are eternally grateful!
Photo lifted from one of Maureen’s diaries. She was happy then!
Maureen & her hubby —Soul mates together again.
And I want to thank you all for welcoming me & MCS into the group with open paws, when you barely knew us! It was a big stretch I’m sure to allow a newbie adopt Smokey & Tiger, and I thank you for your help & trust. We love them so much!
And we love being a part of this great Community!
Thank you!
I won’t write this whole diary -We will do it together. Post a photo of a beloved pet, a little blurb about them, and thank them for being in your life.
Fluffy on vacation -She even went to the Jersey Shore with me.
I will start: I need to thank many cats, but a very intelligent little cat named Fluffy started me on the path to animal advocacy in the ‘60’s . She was born in a neighbor’s yard to a stray. And was with me from grade school until I was an RN.
It must have been hard for Fluffy to lose her little girl companion, as I grew into a teen, and then a young woman. I didn’t realize it at the time, but now I do: my time away in the dorm left her lonely, even though she was in my parent’s house & I dropped in often. I wasn’t sleeping there.
But Fluffy was always a loving, faithful, accepting cat. Ah, “Schluff”- Hugs over the Rainbow Bridge! Thank you, Fluffy!
Like Tricia and all true South Philadelphians, Tazz, Sparks & me loved the Mummers Parade. They would watch it from our 2nd floor front window every year. Company did not bother them- I was young & always had friends over. And living on South Broad was an auto-party on NY Day. Thank you for 14 great years Mr Tazz and for 18 great years Lady Sparks.
Sparks loved the parade. Maybe it was the feathers?
Tazz loved the peeps who came to see the parade-always had a full house & he stole beer! (Only to knock it over.)
Sorry for poor photos. My best ones have gone missing. These are just scans of old polaroids & stuff. Back then, there were costumes so tall that they were even higher than our old 2nd floor window, which was at least 2 ½ or 3 stories above the street. Fascinated Sparks. Tazz was like “OK, you got something here I can eat? Oh, people… cool! “ Tazz was a cat with a dog-like personality.
Unfortunately, the city destroyed the MummersParade, a tradition since 1901. They had to move it to a place where they could charge admission. Glad I left before that happened!
We have been lucky- so many great cats, but theirs are stories for another day. Especially Jessicat, my profile pic- could write a book!
Please post thanks to the special animals who have enhanced your lives!
