Received this e-mail today from Braddock Mayor John Fetterman’s (D. PA) Lt. Governor campaign:
If you've driven over a bridge, hopped on a train, or tried to take that back road shortcut to work recently, you've probably noticed that our infrastructure needs some serious work — and it has for a really long time.
So when I heard that infrastructure would be a priority at the White House this week, I was hopeful that the conversation could benefit towns like mine, which haven't seen help with rebuilding roads or bridges in decades.
But wow, was I wrong.
Trump's new plan requires struggling cities and towns to fund at least 80% of their own construction projects with practically no support from the federal government. And the little money that can be awarded to cities and towns for projects comes from cuts to Medicare, Social Security, and food assistance programs that many of the people in these towns rely on to survive.
Last time Trump blew through Pennsylvania for a campaign rally, he promised jobs, money for roads and bridges, and long-term investment in our communities. But now, his plan is to saddle cities and towns with millions in debt to private companies while leaving taxpayers with the tab to pay for it.
Without federal support for new infrastructure, this plan won't come close to helping us build Pennsylvania back up.
Add your name to my petition calling on Trump to build Pennsylvania a better infrastructure plan now.
It's pretty simple: If cities and towns had the money to fund their own infrastructure projects, then they already would have. But they don't. So while the cities that can raise 80% of the money needed for their projects might get federal funding to help fix their bridges and roads, those of us who can't will continue to be left behind.
When we make it harder for struggling towns to get a fair shot at funding for essential projects, we aren't setting our communities up for success — we're setting them up for failure.
I won't settle for anything less than we deserve, and we deserve a whole lot more than this.
Add your name to my petition now to demand an infrastructure plan that helps to build every community in Pennsylvania back up.
Thank you for fighting with me,
John
