Greetings, Houstonians! As you may or may not know, I am the founder and administrator of the Houston Area Kossacks group. We’ve been around for almost six years, and the main purpose of our group is bringing together Kossacks from the Houston area for fellowship and encouraging activism. To that end, we hold meetups almost every month (usually alternating between Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings to bring out as many people as possible). I’ve found that this is especially important in the perilous times in which we currently live—meetups are a place to socialize, yes, but also to vent and to encourage each other. Whenever possible, the group also promotes action opportunities in the Houston area.
Our group has a pretty lengthy membership list and a core base of frequent meetup attendees, but something I’ve noticed is that we haven’t really been growing lately. This is something that I place squarely on my own shoulders, since for a variety of reasons I have not spent as much time actively recruiting members here on Daily Kos as I used to. As a result, our membership has sort of stagnated. This is something I’m aiming to change, since I know there are more Houstonians here on Daily Kos, many of whom might not even know this group exists.
I’ll be better advertising our monthly meetups from now on, but I wanted to start with our upcoming March meetup, which will be on Saturday, March 31. I know this date is fast approaching, but if you are free that afternoon and are interested in getting to know some other Houston Kossacks, we hope you’ll take the plunge and come to the meetup! We’re always happy to meet new members, and our meetups are usually quite a bit of fun. Here are the full details for the meetup:
Date: Saturday, March 31
Time: 2:00pm
Location: Fadi’s Meyerland Mediterranean Grill, 4738 Beechnut Street
Fadi’s is, for lack of a better term, “cafeteria-style.” Those who arrive early will probably be hanging around the front, but if you arrive after 2:00, you can just go through the line to get your food and find us.
Here is our RSVP list so far, which we’re hoping to expand (with your name!) between now and then:

If you would like to come to the meetup, please let me know either by commenting below or sending me a kosmail.
If you can’t make it to this meetup but are interested in joining our group and maybe attending future meetups, please also contact me so I can add you to the Daily Kos group. We do most of our communication about meetups and other events by email, so please send me your email address if you would like to be added to our list. Only I will ever see your email address (if you’re concerned about privacy), and I will only email you about upcoming meetups and action opportunities (in other words, I will not be spamming your inbox).
Please contact me if you have any questions or interest in the group. Hopefully we’ll see you soon!
