Chris Tague is running for New York State Assembly in a special election on April 24. He’s running on the Conservative, Independence and Reform party lines, against Democrat Aidan S. O'Connor Jr. and independent candidate Wesley D. Laraway. Tague was on WIOX with Don Mathisen a couple of weeks ago, to give the classic conservative explanation that if he’s elected he’s going to end all of this “waste” in our budget.
Mathisen: The current New York State budget is about one hundred forty-nine billion dollars, that works out to $7570 per person; as a comparison, Florida has about the same number of people, they spend $92 billion … so, does New York spend too little, too much, or maybe just about the right amount?
Tague: I think they spend too much.
Nailed it! That’s what people want to hear, amiright???? Now, tell us how you’re going to fix that, Mr. Tague!
Mathisen: So where would you cut?
Tague: They don’t spend it in the right places.
Mathisen: So what would you cut?
Tague: Well, there’s a lot of different programs, I would say, that need to be looked at. I mean, number one? I would say … um … probably, I would say … in the areas of … [long breath and exhale] … hold on one second, would ya?
Mathisen: Sure.
Tague: [another long exhale] … I’m having one of those … moments.
He’s having one of those campaigns, amiright? Mathisen tries to help him out by pointing out that big budget items are education and medicaid. It doesn’t help Tague.
Enjoy!
