Received this e-mail today from Wisconsin Superintendent Tony Evers’ (D. WI) gubernatorial campaign:
Tony Evers (D. WI)
Thanks to your incredible support, Tony was able to surpass his end-of-month fundraising goal and remain on track to defeat Scott Walker this November.
However, there is plenty of time before November for Scott Walker to damage Wisconsin and continue his relentless attacks on public education.
Tomorrow, Wisconsin residents will be voting on the proposal to eliminate the office of State Treasurer. If the measure passes, Wisconsin would be the only state in the nation to not have a treasurer or watchdog equivalent.
Our treasurer helps oversee our school’s trust funds including the Common School Fund, which at $1.04 billion is the only dedicated source of funding for K-12 school libraries and technology.
The Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) has come out strongly against this attempt to consolidate power and attack public schools, and as a fellow educator, Tony is proud to stand with them in opposing this measure.

The State Treasurer currently oversees trust funds that fund our schools. Since they are not part of the budget-making process, they are an ideal custodian to protect the integrity of these funds from partisan interference.
This was intentionally set up this way in our constitution, but Walker is willing to do anything that will consolidate his power and weaken our public schools.
