The White House is preparing a draft proclamation for President Donald Trump to declare a national emergency along the southern border and has identified more than $7 billion in potential funds for his signature border wall should he go that route...Link
The funds would be diverted from the Pentagon budget, Eminent domain, etc.
It is unclear how the courts will ultimately treat this attempt by the executive branch to go around Congress. Regardless, the immediate result would mean the funding for the stupid wall would evaporate as a roadblock to getting the government funded. So that’s good.
Also, if Trump takes the plunge, after passing the budget, the House can immediately pass a joint resolution un-declaring the national emergency. A joint resolution would force the Senate to vote. Which is, again, good news, ‘cause few Republicans want to go on record supporting this power grab.
More good news, I suppose: when we take back the White House, President _______ could declare a national emergency, take money from the Pentagon budget and give it to a single-payer system.
