I’m kind of pessimistic about 2020.
Specifically, I believe that there is a non-zero chance that the ballot will be neither free nor fair because of actions by the US government.
I am of the opinion that, should this happen, we will be rapidly moving to something like a “Zombie Apocalypse” scenario. (I may be wrong, but grant me this)
So, in such a scenario, one needs a reliable means of hunting and self protection in a world where the availability machine shops and replacement parts are limited.
For right now, I a looking at choices for a rifle, and want to look at a non-self-loading rifle, which means bolt or lever action, and I go with the former for robustness and accuracy.
Clearly, in the US at least, that means a rifle chambered for either 30-06 or 7.62 NATO. (Probably the latter)
The choices quickly reduce to either a Mauser action (Springfield, etc.) or a SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield).
I’m inclined to go with the SMLE, because while it is a bit less accurate than a Mauser, it has a much faster action and a larger magazine, which allows one to put more rounds down range, which I value more highly given my marksmanship limitations.
So, for Kossaks who want to get their firearm geek on, please give your advice, and the reason for your selection.
