I am a Progressive Democrat, so I disagreed with the late Senator John McCain on almost every issue. However, when I saw a recent video of Donald Trump disparaging John McCain over and over again, I was so stunned that I muttered the two words that I try never to say because I try to avoid in any way taking the Lord's name in vain: "Jesus C*****".
Although I disagreed with many of his stands, John McCain was an American hero in every sense of the word. When he was captured in Vietnam, it was not through any fault of his own. It was because his plane could no longer fly. When McCain had a chance to be released early from the place that tortured him day after day, he refused to be released early in order to deny Vietnam a propaganda victory and so that he would not abandon his men. Donald Trump, on the other hand, used five deferments to wriggle out of Vietnam service. Now, the cowardly Trump badmouths the hero McCain. It is truly dispicable.
When I watched John McCain's funeral on television, I shed some tears for the man. Now, one needs to realize that I have never before cried for a Republican politician in my life. However, between my genuine like and respect for the man, and my empathy from watching the testimonies of those who loved the man so much, I felt a great loss. People will always disagree in politics, but most of us have families and people who love us, and John McCain had millions of people who were sad to see him go.
Donald Trump cannot get one simple fact into his head--that in those last few months of Senator McCain's life, when he knew that he was only being kept alive by modern medicine, that he realized that anyone in his position who did not have healthcare would already be dead. Those last few months were precious for Senator McCain, as they would be for anyone who loved life because his life was filled with people whom he loved, and who loved him. That is why John McCain could not take healthcare away from anyone else, and that is why he voted "No" on Obamacare repeal.
Donald Trump is essentially a soulless monster, who apparently spends way too much time worrying about whatever real or imagined slights have been received by him while giving no thought at all to all of the people who both believed in and cared for John McCain--and still miss him to this day. Senator John McCain admirably served his nation as Naval Aviator and then a U.S. Senator with distinction for decades, and our nation should be, and is, truly grateful for his service. Donald Trump, on the other hand, is an embarrassment to both our nation and the entire planet. The sooner our nation gets rid of him, the better.
