I’ve been reading a lot of MSM articles on Ilhan Omar, and all of them have the same theme, “Ilhar Omar’s comments create a rift, divide, crack, hate-filled split, in Democratic Party. I beg to differ. Her comments did not create a divide; this play, typically inaccurate, by the MSM is fostering the impression that there is a divide created within the party, and providing much-needed cover to some folks to get attention from the issue. It isn’t Omar who created this rift, it is the rest of us, all of us.
Representative Omar wasn’t voted into office because she was Muslim, she wasn’t voted in because she was female or Black, she was voted in because she is honest. She was voted in to speak the truth. Her statement that power and money surround our unremitting support of Israel was correct, like it or not.
As an aside, one of the reasons Donald Trump got elected was that he told the truth. He was honest about the lies that are fed to us daily by Washington and the powerful. Unfortunately, mistaking that honesty as something he legitimately believed in, makes you foolish. Nothing about his history suggests he would actually do something about the lies told to us by the MSM and the politically powerful.
However, the fact that Trump realized that telling the truth would be a powerful approach to winning an election is clear, and the fact that the Democratic party still doesn’t get that, is a statement.
Americans are tired of being lied to. No adult thinks that Israel is a paragon of good behavior, and being told that commenting on their bad behavior makes you an anti-semite doesn’t sit well with us. Neither does being told that the violence in the Middle East is strictly due to Islamic fundamentalism and not to the many wars conducted there in pursuit of oil. We aren’t this stupid, none of us, liberal or conservative. For the most part, we know that it isn’t minority favoritism or illegal immigrants that took away all the jobs (I acknowledge that some racists believe this, but it isn’t the majority of Americans) but rather, that rich folks sent the jobs overseas where they could get cheap slave-labor (and yes, in many instances it looks a lot like slave labor).
For the first time in my lifetime, we have representatives who are telling the truth, they are calling out the lies, and boy is it making people in Washington uncomfortable. The sooner that the powerful elite realizes this, the sooner that they will be able to adjust to it.
This didn’t happen because our representatives made it happen, it happened because the voters are demanding it. I see the polls and the calls to write your congressperson that happen here daily. THANK YOU! This is on us. So don’t blame Representative Omar, blame us. This is what we want. She is doing our work and for the first time in a long time, I feel I am being represented.
As everyone here knows, Omar, AOC, Sanders, Warren, and all of the others (and there are others) who are speaking the truth can't buck a long-established system. It is the voices here and on the internet per se, who communicate when we need to act that are the heroes, and I thank them. Their fervor lets me know exactly when to act, and through their efforts, we will win.
