This mother’s day, with my own mom traveling through Italy, I have time to reflect and stew about the forced birther laws passed recently in Ohio and Georgia.
I look at the images of the bastard men who passed these laws, smiling and gleeful, uncaring of the carnage and pain they’re about to unleash.
I am so angry at these men, livid at their lack of care and their profound disrespect toward women everywhere.
Consider that every one of these stupid asshats was birthed by a woman. Unless something tragic happened to their moms at birth, they were subsquently fed, clothed, cared for, educated, protected, and raised by a woman. They grew up among female classmates, neighborhood friends, sisters, stepsisters and girl cousins. They had aunties and grandmothers and the wise old woman who kept shop in their towns. They had female teachers and college friends and colleagues. They dated women and married women and probably have daughters and granddaughters and nieces of their own. Women have been an integral part of their lives from the moment they were conceived.
And how do they repay these women? By telling them and showing them that they are disrespected. That they are less than human. That they have no ability or right to make their own medical decisions. That they are not real, 100% equal people and citizens of the United States of America. That they are subject to the religious and moral whims of men who do not understand or care about womens’ health issues- the only thing they’re to do is obey men and bow to their silly need for control and power. That they’d gladly use the power of the state, founded to make life better for all, to systematically oppress 50% of the population. That they’d rather, at the end of it, have a woman die in agony than have a choice in her own fate.
I know the causes. I know out-of-control religion is a helluva drug. But I cannot understand it. I cannot get inside a mind that twisted and that self-unaware.
How can they look these women that they supposedly love in the eye and still do this bull malarkey?
I cannot fathom disrespect this profound.
