Many people, including, apparently, the Speaker of the House Pelosi, believe that a failed Impeachment Trial would somehow increase Donald Trump's popularity and enable the worst POTUS in history to pull victory from the jaws of defeat.
Call me an optimist, but I don't believe that! In fact, I believe not having an Impeachment trial would help get him re-elected, because all through the campaign he would repeat, "The Democrats wanted to impeach me, but decided there was nothing to impeach me for. No collusion, no obstruction." and really how can the Democrats depute that if they can and don't impeach him? They can't and that's the number one reason that we have to impeach the S.O.B.
By all rights, we shouldn't have to worry about the 2020 election, except theoretically we thought we had nothing to worry about in 2016 and you know what happened. Yes, Trump ran against a well qualified, but unpopular candidate and was the recipient of a Perfect Storm of election interference. He lost by 2.9 million votes, but won the electoral college. He was also the beneficiary of a massive three pronged 'information warfare attack' from Russia, unprecedented intervention from then FBI Director, James Comey, the advent of conspiracy theory Fake News and a half dozen other things I can't recall right now.
Reasonable people including almost all of his home town of Manhattan borough in New York City, know what Donald Trump is, despise the man and have no use for him. However, there were enough incurious, gullible, lied to and misinformed voters to make the vote close enough that he won the electoral college,
So that's the second reason we must impeach Trump. We can't take the chance. Everyone needs to be equally informed or at least to have the opportunity to be informed about what Trump is really like and nothing would define Donald J. Trump better than a six to eight month worldwide televised Impeachment Trial. And I don't just mean Impeach Trump on the Mueller Report. While we're waiting on the courts to decide whether so and so can testify we ought to open the testimony to anyone who has ever suffered and the hands of Donald J. Trump from the nineteen & counting women who've been harassed & assaulted, to the Trump University people who were conned, to the contractors and creditors who were stiffed and on and on.
That would be PRO number One-Informing all voters what Trump is really like. However, there are other pros. Most of the suggested testimony from volunteers would be prior to Trump assuming office, however there are many other pros which have little or nothing to do with the Special Counsel's Russian investigation Here are some of those PROS
Most of us know that Individual #1 in the Michael Cohen indictment and conviction is Donald Trump and there is even a recording of him directing Cohen to pay Stormy Daniels $130, 000 a few days before the election. That is hard evidence. There may be more with the National Inquirer ‘Catching and Killing’ the Karen McDougal story just before the election too, but we'll leave it with Stormy Daniels for now.
TWELVE OTHER ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS
We know from the Mueller Report that there are twelve other ongoing investigations, any of which could break during the Impeachment Inquiry or the Senate trial. One that we know of is the missing 50-70 million from the Trump inauguration, much of which illegally came from foreign sources.
OPERATING A CHARITY FOR PERSONAL GAIN
Donald Trump's personal piggy bank TRUMP FOUNDATION was ordered closed last year due to misuse of funds for personal use. The New York Attorney General is looking into the Foundation for criminal activities as well.
.EMOLUMENT CLAUSE
This is happening right before our eyes, in the White House, Trump International Hotel, Mar a Lago, Trump Tower and probably overseas. Foreigners and Foreign Governments are lining up to line Trump’s pockets for favors. Currently there is three lawsuits from Attorney's General in three states for violations of the Emolument Clause.
There have been numerous cases Trump has broke the law or tried to get underlings to break the law, the most recent I can think of is trying to get Homeland Security to re-institute the illegal family separation policy against his own Executive Order--a standing Court Order. Also ordering Border Patrol agents to not allow immigrants to ask for asylum. There's also cases where Trump Obstructed Justice and once at least was even seen on TV.
When Trump was sworn in to be President he agreed that his first order of business was to protect the country and the people. His second order of business was to follow the constitution. He has done neither. From 2015 until now seventeen U.S. intelligence gathering agencies have agreed that Russia using cyber information warfare attacked our country in many ways to interfere in our election in order to elect Donald Trump. Donald Trump not only denies Russia helped him win the election, he refuses to authorize countermeasures to Russia’s continuing interference and now there are signs other unfriendly countries such as North Korea are attempting to interfere too. IMO this is aiding and abetting the enemy which borders on Treason.
SEDITION AND DIVIDING THE COUNTRY
As we all know Donald Trump has divided the country more than at any time in a hundred and fifty years. In addition to many guest appearances on Fox News, where he bemoans everybody that he feels are unfair to him, which is pretty much everyone who doesn’t wear a MAGA hat. He enjoys holding rallies because the Trump acolytes adore him. At these rallies he often gets out of control showing his bigoted, racist side and even going so far as to preach sedition. In a recent interview he even said, "I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump - I have the tough people, but they don't play it tough - until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad."
It should be, but unfortunately, it’s not against the law for the President to accept bribes, favors as long as it’s not from foreigners of foreign governments and he knows it. That’s why our corrupt to the core president is doing everything he can to make money off of his presidency from accepting bribes, etc in all his properties. He even sells positions like ambassadorships, by assigning 2/3 these positions to donors.
He also started his campaign for re-election on the day he was inaugurated and has amassed in slightly over two years over $100 million and of course he still holds several rallies a month where he sells Trump paraphernalia and accepts donations. None of this is illegal but it does display his lack of ethics, morals and is very un-presidential. IMO this behavior could be applied in an impeachment trial.
NEPOTISM
Another thing which is probably not against the law for the president (so little is) but is against the law for any other government employees is nepotism. As we know TRUMP has his daughter, Ivanka, his son in law, Jared Kushner with him working in and out of the White House, working for Trump senior and likely TRUMP INC on the side, shamelessly using the presidency to make money.
Presidents all divest business interests and investments or put them in a blind trust so there is not even a whiff of conflict of interest. Jimmy Carter even sold his peanut farm, but that was pre-Trump. Trump’s idea of divestment is putting his two older sons in charge of his business, while staying heavily involved and even being able to add or draw money from those businesses.
INDIFFERENCE TO PUERTO RICO
Donald Trump obviously has a problem with the U.S. Possession in the Caribbean sea, Puerto Rico. They were damaged like no state has ever been damaged by two hurricanes in 2017. The response to the destruction by both TRUMP and FEMA was pathetic. Power was out in much of the island for close to a year, which contributed mightily to the almost 3000 Puerto Ricans who perished.
Character? Yes, you could say Donald J Trump is a character, but he’s a character without character:
Not counting the exaggerations and outright lies Donald made while campaigning and during the transition period, the Washington Post, who’s been keeping track, says Donald has spun over 9000 prevarications or outright fantasies in the twenty-seven months he’s been president. But that’s nothing.
BANANA REPUBLIC DICTATOR
And now Trump has sunk so low that he is having his Flunky, Attorney General Barr investigate and probably frame people from the FBI who have dared to investigate him for the Russian ties, for of all things, treason, the punishment of which is execution. This alone would be reason to impeach Trump! What's more he has other people he wants investigated. such as his former opponent, a former First Lady, Senator and former Secretary of the State.
TRIAL WOULD KEEP SENATE TOO BUSY TO CONFIRM JUDGES
Obviously, if the Senate was holding an impeachment trial, it would interfere with McConnell's goal of confirming even more Federal Judges.
SENATE DOWNSIDE FOR ACQUITTING TRUMP
Many speculate, with good reason that were Trump impeached and the Republican led Senate found him not guilty that his popularity would soar and he would become unbeatable in 2020.
First of all, I'm not convinced that he would be acquitted. I think you have an idea of what would come out in an impeachment trail: do you really think that after the whole world has heard all the bad, unethical, lawless, immoral things TRUMP did that all the Republican sycophants would line up and find him not guilty? They might, but if they did they would be labeled criminal facilitators for life as surely as if they has a T tattooed on their foreheads. Remember, twenty-two of these Senators are up for re-election, including McConnell himself. How is he going to defend his acquit vote.
Even if the Senate did, acquit Trump, does anyone think after six to eight months of grueling, very negative testimony against him, Donald J. Trump will gain popularity and pick up voters. I'm betting the opposite will happen. He might lose by five million votes this time and face numerous indictments.
I wouldn't want to be in Donald's shoes
