MAY 5, 2019 — Since announcing his candidacy, Jay Inslee has gained a ton of support. He raised 2.5 million and has reached 50,000 donors after only one month of campaigning.
Jay Inslee announced that he would center his campaign on a sole issue — climate change. Since climate change was the 15th most important issue to Americans, this seemed a bit risky and an Inslee win seemed highly unlikely.
The DNC standards say that Democratic candidates must get at least 1% in the polls to reach the debate stage. However, many Democrats have entered the 2020 race, so the DNC may eliminate all candidates that do not reach 65,000 donors before the debate begins in June.
Today, Jay Inslee’s staff told him the news — he’d just reached 50,000 donors, which meant he only needs 15,000 more donors to reach the 65,000 donors required by the DNC to reach the debate stage.
