The Sherman County History Museum in Moro, Oregon, has a series of displays on cultivation and conservation, both important activities in an agricultural community. These displays are housed in their own building.
Shown above is a John Deere 36A Combine which combines two operations: (1) the cutting or harvesting of the grain, and (2) the thrashing of the grain which separates if from the chaff.
In the era of horse-drawn harvesting, it would take a crew of ten people with 40 horses to harvest 35 acres a day. With the mechanized combine, a crew of three could harvest 120 acres a day.
Another view of the combine.
