Today was interesting. I didn’t have anyone to canvass with today, so I decided to go out on my own. I had my wife drive and I trekked out to meet some voters. It went well, but many people either weren’t home or just weren’t opening their doors. I did meet a nice family of beekeepers, a former police officer, and wished I had met the 100 year old woman who wasn’t home. In a rural area it takes a while to get from house to house. It felt like I had been going to many houses, but when I made my final count I had knocked on 19 doors. Many houses had at least 2 or more voters living there so I contacted more voters than houses. I had to pass out my homemade postcards because I still need to purchase nice full color cards to give to voters. I also need to organize more volunteers to help canvass and call people. I would like to reach more than 19 households in a day. It did feel empowering to meet with voters and ask them what they need to happen in Richmond to make their lives better. I am so excited to serve my constituents when I win this seat in the House of Delegates.
