Tech Talk for Kosacks (members of Daily Kos)
When writing a comment or draft diary and desiring to expand a link either fore or aft and wanting to include extra characters, start typing after the first letter or before the last letter of the link, and then delete the extraneous character. You can add words inside a link without causing link problems. Feel free to test in today’s comments. This link-character-expansion trick will work on other websites too. We welcome other tech questions.

Please support Representative Rashida Tlaib
I canvassed near my home for Rashida, voted for Rashida, support Rashida. In my Roundup poll on August 25, I asked “Do you support Rashida Tlaib?” Your 312 responses pleased me:
- 72% Yes.
- 17% Most of the time.
- 7% Sometimes.
- 0% No. [Putin’s bots apparently did not find my poll. ~2thanks]
In gratitude for your 312 overwhelmingly favorable responses, I decided to set up an ActBlue page for Rashida for Readers and members of Daily Kos. When the nit attacks her, you could right your emotional canoe by making a donation. Since I just created this ActBlue page, its balance is now $0. I welcome notes about donations to Rashida in the comments, but such notes are certainly not mandatory.
My adventure last week: An update
Short read: Chew your food well, my friends.
Long read and maybe TMI for the faint-of-heart: As I mentioned in the comments of my Roundup last week, early on Sunday morning I underwent an EGD to remove food stuck deep in my esophagus. The operation succeeded. Starting at 6 o'clock on Friday night, I was unable to eat or drink for 36 hours. I was able to swallow only what my esophagus could hold, perhaps 2 to 3 ounces (60 to 90 cc). Thank goodness for science, medicine, and insurance: I was able to get treatment in an ER and surgery. I think before modern treatments, people with esophageal obstruction would die. If you are curious, this Wikipedia article might answer a few questions, and here’s an image of peristalsis. Fizzy drinks, nitroglycerin, and glucagon did not help me, but the esophagoscopy definitely did. I’ve been exhausted all week due to two nights of ruined sleep on Friday and Saturday. At first, I was annoyed by the GI surgeon for irritating my pharynx, larynx, and esophagus. However, I later realized that all my paroxysms of esophageal contraction had exhausted my esophageal and diaphragmatic muscles, which were not familiar with such exertion. I’m still not completely recovered. I’ve not had a followup appointment with my surgeon yet, but apparently I have no esophageal issues which contributed to my adventure.
In summary: Chew your food well, my friends.
How to Resist
The Five R’s of the Resistance
- Resist: Protest on the streets, call senators and representatives, etc.
- Rebel: Run for office, GOTV (Get Out The Vote), support a progressive.
- Revolt: Change the laws, change the culture, build your communities.
- Rely: Trust that millions of others are fighting the good fight.
- Rest: Take care of yourself, we are in this for the long term.
Say so, say so.

Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! Although 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, that’s okay, we all do what we can. For more than 2 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
