Here are the reasons why I support raising the minimum wage. The points that I will be raising are questions I have but not asked out loud.
- Why are some companies calling three percent raises to the hourly wage "generous"?
- How are the bonus structures decided?
- Why are there salary caps for people who have worked at company 10 years or more?
- When will companies stop using "social currency" when it sounds absolutely asinine?
I asked these questions while working at a call center. My starting salary was $7.65 an hour. I had to stick to the script. I was barely above the minimum wage. I dealt with changing departments, wage cuts, different supervisors, and finally the severance package after almost being at that company for four years. I do support unionization of call centers because no call center representative should have to deal with wage cuts, wage caps, an elusive bonus structure, and three percent raises when going beyond doing your job.
